The Holocaust and Night

Elie Wiesel wrote Night to tell the world about his experiences in the Nazi death camps. While his story will be the focus of our study over the next few weeks, there are many other facets of the Holocaust that must be examined in order to understand the enormity of this crime.
In the series Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State, the evolution of one of the camps, Auschwitz is detailed. The first episode, Surprising Beginnings examines the increase in violence against all opponents of the Nazi state between early 1940 - mid 1941. Here we learn that initially, Auschwitz came into being to house political prisoners and Soviet POWs, not Jews.
There is a definite difference between the thoughts of the prisoners and those of the perpetrators. One perpetrator, for example, justifies his actions in this way: "Because my hatred towards the Jews is too great. I admit my thinking on this point is unjust. . . .But what I experienced from my earliest youth . . . what the Jews were doing to us — well that will never change. That is my unshakable conviction."
What kinds of
messages about other people do we learn from our parents? How important are these messages in determining how we behave as adults? How can you know when you are a child that something you learn is wrong or misinformation?

  2. When we are young we dont know much about the difference between good and evil, what is right and wrong. As we grow up and learn we start to understand more about how we, yourselves feel about certain ethnic groups of just a certain person. Our parents may tell us that something/someone is bad but we in our curiosity will not know until we see for ourselves. Parents give the idea but not the signed evidence saying that a person is generally evil. How we view the world, what we like and dont like about it will decide for us how we are as adults

  3. The messages we learn from our parents about other people or ethnic groups as kids is pretty much what they feel about that person or group, because all you know of good and evil is like batman and the joker, expect real life isn't that black and white so in their eyes they're protecting you. The messages we learn from our parents as kids are very important because they pretty much set the grounds for what you will feel towards that person or group and what you will most likely end up teaching your kids and the cycle continues. When your a kid you kinda have to decide what you think is good or bad.

  4. If your parents are raceitst or sterotypicl the chances of you being the same are high. It is human nature to take after their parents and their actions. There are also positive actions that may take place, either way your parents play a part in who you become in the future, good or bad

  5. The most basic teachings come from our parents. Things like not to steal, to use proper manors and to me a kind person. When such things are taught to someone at such an early age they are very likly to remember and live by those things for the rest of there life. It is very difficalt to learn from other people that parents may not be right. The only way to no when they are wrong is to listen to others and also analys what they are trying to make you understand.

  7. The first people who influence our perception of others are our parents, but they are not the only people. Extended family, friends, teachers, coaches, clergy and community members all shape our perception of others. If a child develops a negative opinion about a group of people, it can either be reinforced by others or they can be exposed to another perspective.

Unfortunately in Nazi Germany, anti-semitism was a common feeling among the people. Hitler played on this negative feeling about the Jews, portraying them as the source of all the country's woes, and used propaganda to reinforce, inflame, and focus this message in his rise to power. Organizations like the Hitler youth further cultivated an obedience to the state and a feeling of superiority over others.

The good news is, not all people bought into the message. Some Germans resisted the message of hate and tried to help Jews and others targeted by Hitler. To me, that represents hope that humans have the innate ability to reason and decisions of right or wrong based on critical thinking despite the environment they are raised in. All it takes is one person to break from "group think" to influence others in a positive or negative way. We all have these people in our lives and we all have to decide individually to listen to or ignore them.

  8. What you learn from your parents is yes important and helps you lead the first part of your life but after you grow up a little but and can think for yourself, you would know what’s wrong and right.

  9. The opinions that kids have about people from other ethnic groups, cultures, religions, etc. is most likely their opinion because of the way that their parents view people from other ethnic backgrounds. This is not necessarily true, but in most cases, a child's opinion about anything will be somewhat related to that of his/her mom/dad. Basically if a kid is racist, his parents are most likely racist as well. The way that a child is raised has an effect on every thought they have.

  10. when we are kids we see people help other people and we would want to do that same some day , or so you would think, and other time we see people have a very unfar hate for people becaus they think, act, look, and just seem diffrent form them so we see how are parents act/feel about certion people and grups and is that really far how can you judge a person by how that ,act look, or think,
and some not all but some think this is how you act beacus my dad or mom acts around them and that just as bad as going up to some one you have no idea what they think about things and punching them in the face they will all (well some might hit back) act the same and that wrong to you are being just as the person that doesn't understand them ..
i really hope thats what the question asked

  12. Our parenat teach us that some people are not good for us to be around. These teaching can make us not like or even hate the people that the are in these groups of people. You dont unles some one ealse teaches you differently or that it does not feel right to do.

  13. Parents teach us many things that are useful to us. Many habits that parents have may also have an affect on you as well. A parents opinions and views on certain issues or people can often cause the person who hears these kinds of things to absorb the information like a sponge and believe alot of these things. Of course, not everyone is like that
