Egyptian Mythology

9th Grade Literature

The mythologies that we have from the Egyptians depict a rich society and developed civilization that created some remarkable achievements. As with many cultures, these stories were a central part of their belief system. In addition to being a part of their belief system though, these stories had a huge impact on their everyday lives for both the royalty and peasants.
1. From what we have viewed in class in Engineering an Empire and read of their mythology, how much of Egyptian society was directed by their beliefs?
2. What accomplishments were a direct result of their beliefs and stories?

1 The Egyptians followed their beliefs as if they were a law or role model to their everyday lives.

2 The Egyptian's structures related to their beliefs. The pyramid led to the path of a new life and the drawings explained what they believed in.

  9. 1. The whole basis of Egyptian society seemed to be centered around the uquestioned leadership of the Pharaoh and the priests who served under his authority. This, in turn, allowed the Pharaoh to justify every single one of his regulations, laws and commands as "the will of the gods." It was with the Egyptians' belief in the divinity of their Pharaoh that he could achieve such control of his subjects' lives, and hence, society.

    2. Because of their beliefs and myths, Egyptians were given the motivation to create magnificent works of arcitecture which were unpresedented at the time of their construction, and would remain unchallenged for millenia. An example of such achievments would be the widely-known example of the Great Pyramids, which still capture the imaginations of modern-day visiters.
